A new school year is about to begin. Over 60 Dakar schools are still flooded, and as a result of the floods, some of the families of the pupils in the NdiagamarSchool are also affected. In the worst cases families have had to leave their homes permanently because of the damages and move elsewhere.
A much better piece of news is that four pupils – two girls and two boys – out of the six candidates have past the national exams of the 6ème and will be able to continue their school work in upper grades. This is a fantastic result and we wish to congratulate the pupils and the teachers and all our supporters alike!

The class rooms have now a much needed brighter and smooth appearance! The rough looking tile walls are but a memory, and the new fresh look in the entire school building makes it a much more comfortable working environment for everyone.

The Diamaguène neighbourhood in the end of August 2008
While heavy rains have again hit for instance Burkina Faso hard second year in a row, with six persons killed and thousands left homeless, they have been less devastating in Senegal. Yet the rains seriously complicate the everyday life of the inhabitants in the suburbs of Dakar, where the sewage is poor or does not exist. Because of this the construction work for lavatories at the school is slightly delayed, but we hope to finish before the school year starts again in October. The school is still short of approximately 200 euro for materials needed for plumbing installations, so more help is needed to win this battle.
